Get the hang of consistency in three ways for great results.

If there is anything that I have learned over the past few months, it’s that being consistent is easier said than done + consistency will get you results, not determination. You see, our behaviours are very much driven by our habits, or lack thereof. And our habits are almost ingrained in our subconscious, which makes them very difficult to change.

Instead of us leading our habits, quite often our habits determine the course of our lives. Especially if we do not intentionally and CONSISTENTLY work on them.

So here are three ways I am doing to keep consistent in my life to get the results that I want to see:

The “IF I want ….. THEN I need to do ….. ” exercise

I am a big believer in setting goals, and it’s all good to have them as ambitious as possible. However, if you don’t honestly put down the habits that you need to do consistently to even get close to achieving these goals, then the whole exercise is just a wish list exercise.

So for every goal I set, I ask myself: What do I need to do If I want to achieve this goal? I recently found out about the “IF…THEN…” exercise from Rachel Hollis’s next 90 day challenge. I think it is an excellent way of being realistic with your goals and values. And assessing whether you really want something and are willing to put in the effort every single day to get what you want in life.

To make it simple, I have noted down one “IF… THEN…” statement for each of my key goals. This makes it way easier to track whether I am living up to my resolutions, than trying to start practicing a million new things all at once.

FEELINGS ASIDE, IT NEEDS TO GET DONE!

Feelings will always play with your mind. Whenever I don’t feel like doing something that I know I need to do consistently, that’s exactly the time when I need to do it.

If you wait to do something only when you feel like doing it, you will almost always have a reason not to do it. I know we are not machines, but we are in control of what we do daily. And the results in our lives are a sum of our daily habits. #foodforthought

DAILY HABIT TRACKER

I recently shared a post with all the productivity apps that I use. One of the apps, Strides, helps me to do daily logs of whether I have completed a habit or not. There are 3 habits that I have committed to doing every single day. It is amazing how this app keeps me accountable for my commitment. It sends me reminders to complete a habit. The app even tracks the length of a “streak” ( how many days I have consistently done the habit).

You can try it too, but if you would rather have a worksheet which you can write on everyday to log your habits, then subscribe to my email list below, and your girl will sort you out with one soon!

BONUS: DON’T COMMIT TO SOMETHING YOU CANNOT DO CONSISTENTLY FOR A MONTH

Saying no is something that I have come to realize is a necessary skill to thrive in this world! There are so many requests, demands, expectations from all around us. And honestly, there are only 24 hours in a day to get things done. So what do I say if I cannot commit to doing something consistently for at least 1 month? NO! Simply just say NO, especially if it is something that does not fit into your bigger picture.

What do you do to make sure you keep showing up consistently to get the results that you want to see in your life?

Remember: determination will get you started, but successful people are consistent, and consistency is what will get you results.
